If you want to travel by train from Padang Besar to Hua Hin in Thailand, there is one overnight sleeper service that leaves from the border station (located just inside Malaysia).
This Special Express, all 2nd class sleeper train operates daily from the Thai / Malaysia border to Bangkok, stopping off in Hua Hin just in time for sunrise (if it is on time).
Train number 46 Departs Padang Besar at 17:00 Thai time (18:00 Malaysian time) - arriving in Hua Hin at 06:02 Thai time.
This service departs from Padang Besar railway station as just a couple of carriages and is then joined to train number 38 at Hat Yai Junction station.

To get to Padang Besar to catch train 46 to Hua Hin, you can take:
1) Along distance ETS train from Ipoh, KL Sentral Kuala Lumpur etc >
2) A KTM Komuter train from Butterworth Penang, Sungai Petani, Alor Setar, Arau (Langkawi) >
The fare (tambang) / ticket price (harga tiket) for this train is:
Adult Fare:
Upper Bed / Sleeping Berth = 795 Thai Baht
Lower Bed / Sleeping Berth = 885 Thai Baht
Child Fare:
Upper Bed / Sleeping Berth = 653 Thai Baht
Lower Bed / Sleeping Berth = 743 Thai Baht
The lower, more expensive berths are far more comfortable than the upper berths as they are quite a bit wider.
They are also the ones that sell out first!
If you want to travel on this train from Padang Besar to Hua Hin, we highly recommend that you buy your tickets in advance.
This is especially important if you travel during the high season (November / December / January / February / March) or around the Thai New Year (Songkran in April).
If you turn up at Padang Besar station without a ticket during these months, there is a good chance you will not get a ticket!

Tickets are sold from the SRT ticket office at Padang Besar station (opening times depend on the train departures - the office usually is only opened about an hour before the Shuttle train to Hat Yai departs in the afternoon).
If you do turn up at Pdg. Besar without a ticket, we recommend you get there in time to take the afternoon Shuttle to Hat Yai.
So if train 46 is full, you can take this shuttle to Hat Yai, where there are more frequent trains to Hua Hin.
