If you want to travel from Penang Sentral to Ipoh, you can either take a bus / coach or you can take the ETS train from Butterworth Railway Station (just a few minutes walk from the bus terminal).

Train from Penang Sentral (Butterworth) to Ipoh

Taking the train is in our opinion the best way to get to Ipoh from Butterworth's Penang Sentral as the railway station in Ipoh is located just on the edge of the "Old Town" where you will find most of the tourist attractions in the city.

So if you are planning on staying in Ipoh's Old Town for a few days to take in the sights, the railway station is by far the easiest place to arrive at, as you can easily walk from the railway station to a number of places to stay in this area.

The duration of the train journey to Ipoh from Butterworth is around one hour and 45 minutes.

Taking the train to Ipoh is a little bit more expensive than taking a bus however, it saves you a lot of time as the ETS trains are quicker and to get from Ipoh bus terminal to the city centre you will have to take a local bus (around 30 - 40 minutes) or an expensive taxi.

Bus from Penang Sentral to Ipoh

Taking the bus is the cheapest way to get to Ipoh from Penang Sentral with tickets costing between RM 20 to RM 25.

The duration of the bus trip from Penang Sentral to Amanjaya is around two hours and a half hours.

Amanjaya Bus Terminal is located approximately 10 km away from Ipoh Old Town.

To get from the bus station to the city centre you can take a cheap local MyBas bus from Amanjaya Bus Terminal to Medan Kidd Bus Station (located fairly close to the train station on the edge of the Old Town) or a taxi (RM 15 - 20).

Once you arrive at Medan Kidd bus terminal you can then easily walk into town to find accommodation or you can take another MyBas bus around the city as Medan Kidd is the main local bus transport hub for Ipoh.
