If you have just crossed the border from Thailand into Malaysia and want to travel from Padang Besar to Kangar, you have the option to travel by cheap bus, taxi or train.
The distance from Padang Besar town on the Malaysian side of the border to Kangar is approximately 35 km.
By far the cheapest way to travel directly to Kangar from the border is to take a bus service operated by MyBas Perlis (MyBus).
If you have just crossed over the main road border at Padang Besar, exit the immigration area and walk straight down the hill on the left hand side of the road and you will see a row of shops.
Just before the row of shops is the MyBas bus stop (see picture below).

If you have arrived by train at the Malaysian station in Padang Besar, you will have to leave the train station via the footbridge located upstairs.
Once on the other side of the bridge you turn right (exiting the immigration area) and walk down the hill to the bus stop.

The bus journey from Padang Besar to Bukit Lagi Bus Terminal in Kangar takes a little over an hour.
The MyBas ticket price for this trip RM 5.30 (payable onboard).
If you want to spend the night in Kangar, there are plenty of places to stay within 5 to 10 minutes walk of the bus station.
The only other way to travel directly to Kangar from the border is to take a taxi or arrange for a Grab car to pick you up.
You will find a taxi in Padang Besar Malaysia at:
The front of the train station (exit is located upstairs).
Next to the roundabout as you exit the immigration area.
The taxi fare to Kangar should be around 40 to 50 RM.
It is possible to get to Kangar by train.
First you will have to take a KTM Komuter train to Arau Railway station (two stops - 19 minutes).

Once at Arau, you can then take a taxi or MyBas bus from Arau train station to Kangar.
