Travelling by bus is the cheapest option, but will also take you the longest time.
When you arrive at the Jetty in Kuala Perlis, you can easily walk to the Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal in under five minutes.
As you come out of the ferry terminal building, turn left, cross the road, and walk along until you see a pedestrian pathway between the buildings.
This path leads directly to the bus terminal.
There are no direct buses from Kuala Perlis to Padang Besar, so first you will have to take a bus from Kuala Perlis to Kangar Bus Terminal (Bukit Lagi).
This regular service is operated by MyBas (Maraliner), with departures every 90 minutes from 06:30 until the early evening (less on Friday during prayer time in the early afternoon).
The duration of the trip to Kangar is between 20 to 30 minutes and tickets cost 2.90 RM.

Next step is to take the bus from Kangar Bus Terminal to Padang Besar.

Arriving in Padang Besar by bus, you will be dropped off just before the big roundabout at where the border crossing entrance is located..
To get to the Immigration area or train station, you need to walk around the roundabout, where you will see the main entry point to the border crossing.

If you want to travel to Padang Besar by train, you will first have to get to Arau Railway Station (about 17 km from the jetty).
The easiest way to get to Arau train station from Kuala Perlis Jetty is to take a taxi or Grab car.
You can take a local MyBas bus, but you will have to go via Kangar and change buses there to Arau.
From Arau to Padang Besar you can take a cheap KTM Komuter train (duration 19 minutes / fare 3.20 RM).

You can easily get a taxi from just outside the ferry terminal in Kuala Perlis to Padang Besar, where you will see plenty of taxi drivers waiting for the ferry to come in.
The price by taxi from Kuala Perlis to Padang Besar should be between 45 - 50 RM.
The trip should take around an hour.
