If you arrive from Langkawi by boat and now want to travel from Kuala Perlis to Arau Train Station to take a KTM rail service, you have two options:
1) Take a taxi.
2) Take a MyBas bus service via Kangar.
The distance from Kuala Perlis to Arau railway station is around 20 km.

The quickest way to travel is to take a taxi.
There will be plenty of taxi drivers meeting the ferry as it docks at the jetty.
Wait to arrange a taxi until you get outside the terminal building and go to the official taxi waiting area.
The taxi fare to Arau from Kuala Perlis should be between 26 and 30 RM.
Another usually slightly cheaper option is to get a Grab car to pick you up (you will need to have their App downloaded onto your mobile to do so).
If you are on a budget and have plenty of time, the cheapest way to get to the train station in Arau from Kuala Perlis is to take a MyBas bus services from the nearby bus station.
To get to Kuala Perlis bus terminal from the ferry terminal, turn left as you exit and ferry terminal and cross the road. There is a pathway that leads between the buildings to the rear of the bus terminal - it is only a few hundred metres away.
There is no direct bus service to Arau so you will first have to take the Kuala Perlis to Kangar (Bukit Lagi) MyBas bus service which should take 20 to 30 minutes.

Once you arrive at Kangar's Terminal Bas Bukit Lagi, you can connect to another MyBas bus service that operates between Kangar and Changlun, stopping at Arau Train station along the route (20 to 30 minutes trip).

Travelling to Arau train station by bus from Kuala Perlis should cost a total of around 5 RM for the two buses.
Once you arrive at KTM Arau Station, there are both:
KTM Komuter (commuter) train services to the Malaysia / Thailand border station of Padang Besar or south to Butterworth, Penang.
Long-distance Electric Train Services (ETS) to places like Kuala Lumpur.

If you need somewhere to stay for the night, we would suggest you stay in Kangar as the "capital of Perlis State" offers a much greater choice and better value than the port town of Kuala Perlis (there is very little accommodation available in Arau).
