The two Komuter Utara Routes (laluan) are:
1) between Butterworth and Padang Besar (on the Malaysia Thailand border).
2) between Butterworth / Bukit Mertajam and Ipoh in Perak state.
Bukit Mertajam Railway Station is the interchange station for the two lines.

KTM Komuter train tickets are only sold on the day of departure - no advance booking is available or necessary.
Commuter tickets are sold from the Butterworth Railway Station ticket counter only.
They do not sell them from the KTM Ticket Office in Georgetown, (only advance ETS / Intercity tickets are available from here).
When planning your trip by Komuter train, it is always advisable to show up at Butterworth Station a little early, as there can often be long queues at the ticket counter during busy times of the day and on public holidays.
