When travelling by KTM Komuter trains in Malaysia, there is no need to make a reservation.
Just turn up at BM station, buy your tickets from the ticket counter and take the next train heading north towards Padang Besar.
Seating on these trains is on a first-come, first-served basis so it is best to avoid the rush hours as trains can get really busy during these times with workers heading to and from their place of work.
Once you train arrives at Alor Setar train station, you can easily walk into the city centre in 10 to 15 minutes or you can take a short taxi ride.
